This year I became certified Senior Real Estate Specialists (SRES®) to further expand the ways we are able to support my clients. I work with clients in all stages of life and levels of experience in the real estate market. Each client has a unique set of goals and concerns, and I pride myself on providing the best service and expertise in every transaction.

Oftentimes when clients are making moves later in life, they need assistance with downsizing and strategizing what to do with a lifetime of treasures. We have gathered a team of experts to help with this daunting chore in order to streamline the process in a way that honors the emotions that may accompany those decisions.

Finding inventory that fits the variety of needs our senior clients may have (eg: single level or master on the main, close to family members, low maintenance) can mean getting creative in our city of vintage single-family homes. I make sure we have turned over every rock and keep close tabs on neighborhoods and communities that fit this bill.

Why work with an SRES®?

SRES® designees have unparalleled training and experience in seniors real estate, including:

  • Helping you manage the financial and emotional challenges of selling a long-held family home
  • Creating a customized plan to market and sell your property
  • Understanding your unique needs and creating a customized plan to ensure your home meets those needs now and in the future
  • Utilizing specialized knowledge in reverse mortgages, 401(k) accounts, and IRAs for your real estate transaction
  • Connecting you with their vast network of movers, attorneys, home inspectors, and other experts to help you through the process

Farmhouse decor celebrates the rustic and comfortable aspects of country life. One of the many advantages of embracing this design style in your home is the opportunity to upcycle old items and give them new purpose. Here are some great ideas for DIY projects to make your own farmhouse decor.

Upcycled Pallet Headboard

Wooden pallets are essential to rustic DIY projects and are the starting point for many farmhouse-style decor pieces. One fun way to add some farmhouse charm to your bedroom is by creating a headboard out of upcycled wooden pallets.

You can deconstruct the pallets to add more planks if you wish, otherwise you can keep the spaces in-between as-is for a lighter aesthetic. Adding paint or wood stain is up to you, but sand the pallets thoroughly to avoid splinters.

Upcycled Wooden Crate Shelving

Give new life to an old wooden crate by turning it on its side for storage. By attaching an open wooden crate to the wall, you can create floating shelves and add farmhouse flair to any room. Another option is to take multiple crates and stack them together to create a DIY bookcase. If you opt for this approach, secure the crates together with nails or screws rather than stack them loosely. This will keep you and your displayed belongings safer.

Upcycled Blanket Ladder

Blanket ladders are pure farmhouse style and simple to add to your décor. Check your local thrift or vintage stores for an old ladder or buy a new one and add a distressed finish. You can paint and sand the surface of the ladder to make a faux patina. For a slightly more formal farmhouse vibe, try adding a brass finish to a metal ladder. Don't forget that you can use ladders for more than blankets: this piece of upcycled decor could also make an excellent addition to your bathroom for hanging towels.

If you're interested in incorporating the farmhouse design style into your home, upcycling and DIY projects are a perfect place to begin.

Are you considering purchasing a beach home , whether  it’s a vacation or year round home , here’s a few things to consider .

Buying a beach house is at the top of many homeowners’ bucket lists. Whether relocating to the coast or buying a second home for vacations, beachfront property is a popular option.

However, like all homeownership, there are important factors to consider before taking the plunge. Beach homes have facets that you should be aware of to make the most informed purchase decision.

Here are some of the most important ways to prepare for buying a beach house:

Research the area

Buying a beach house means learning all about the best beach towns in your area. Consider other neighborhood factors like traffic, local businesses, parking and the proximity of your neighbors.

It’s also worth researching local development plans that could potentially affect your experience. For example, a brand-new condominium community or hotel being built between you and the beach could diminish your ocean view and increase construction noise.

Work with a local real estate agent

An expert real estate agent will make your beach home search smoother and more effective. A local agent can provide valuable insight into the beach town housing market and the specifics of coastal properties. Additionally, they can represent you during the entire homebuying process and help you with all the paperwork.

Determine your priorities

Determine your lifestyle wants and needs to aid in your beach home search. Ask yourself questions like: will this be a vacation home or primary residence? What features do you consider essential? Is it imperative to be directly on the beach, or could you settle for being a few blocks away?

For coastal properties, it’s also crucial to decide whether you prefer a standalone house or a condominium. Both have their advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Whether you want to start a new life at the beach or buy an investment property, these tips will help you have the best possible experience buying a beach house.
